Thermal Sensor

A thermal sensor is a device designed to detect and measure heat or temperature variations by sensing infrared radiation or changes in thermal energy emitted from objects, surfaces, or living beings. Unlike contact-based temperature sensors, thermal sensors often operate without direct contact, making them ideal for detecting heat patterns, temperature differences, or the presence of warm objects.

Thermal sensors convert thermal energy into electrical or digital signals using technologies such as thermopiles, pyroelectric sensors, bolometers, or infrared (IR) detectors. They can measure absolute temperature, temperature changes, or heat distribution across an area, providing precise and reliable readings.

Many modern thermal sensors are capable of detecting human body heat, enabling effective presence and motion detection even in low-light or dark environments. They are compact, energy-efficient, and capable of real-time data transmission, making them suitable for integration with IoT platforms, automated systems, and safety monitoring networks.

Thermal sensors are widely used in industrial monitoring, security and surveillance, smart buildings, medical diagnostics, robotics, and environmental sensing, where accurate heat detection enhances safety, efficiency, and operational performance.
