Asset Utilisation & Idle-Asset Detection
A clip-on logger on each asset records run-hours and utilisation %, exposing idle assets to redeploy before buying more.
Asset Management · MI-AM-02
Clip-on BLE run-hour loggers on ten assets and two gateways, feeding a utilisation dashboard that shows run-hours, percent utilised and an idle list — so you redeploy before you buy.

Why plants buy what they already own
The problem
Compressors, gensets, welding sets and portable machines sit idle in one shed while another shed rents or buys the same thing. Nobody knows the real run-hours, so maintenance is on the calendar and capital requests are on instinct.
- Idle assets in one department while another buys new
- Maintenance intervals by calendar, not run-hours
- No utilisation data to support or refuse capital requests
- Rentals continue because owned assets cannot be found or proven free
The solution
A magnetic-mount BLE logger on each asset detects vibration or current and records run-hours; LoRaWAN Bluetooth gateways collect the data. The dashboard shows run-hours, utilisation percent per asset and an idle list of assets that have not run in a set period, and can trigger run-hour-based maintenance.
- Run-hours and utilisation percent per asset
- Idle-asset list for redeployment
- Run-hour-based maintenance triggers
- Data for capital and rental decisions

How run-hour logging works
- Clip. Magnetic-mount loggers on ten assets across two sheds.
- Cover. Mount a gateway per shed.
- Watch. Run three weeks to build utilisation profiles.
- Decide. Redeploy idle assets; switch maintenance to run-hours.
Pilot architecture
10× BLE run-hour loggers (vibration / current · magnetic) → 2× LoRaWAN BLE gateways (one per shed) → Utilisation platform (run-hours · idle list) → Asset dashboard (% utilised · maintenance due)
Loggers infer run state from vibration or current; no electrical connection to the asset is needed.
Business case: redeployment, rentals, maintenance
Ranges are typical figures reported for this class of solution; your pilot establishes the numbers for your plant.
- 20 – 40% of portable assets found under-utilised (typical first-pilot finding)
- Avoided capital and rental spend (by redeploying idle assets)
- Run-hour maintenance instead of calendar (fewer unnecessary services)
- 3 – 4 days to a live pilot (ten assets, two sheds)
Who this is for: Plant and maintenance heads, Capex and procurement, Multi-shed and multi-site plants, Construction and infrastructure, Rental-heavy operations, Any site with portable or shared equipment.
Illustrative case study
Illustrative scenario · not a client reference
A fabrication group with three sheds sharing welding sets and compressors in Ludhiana (illustrative)
Set-up. Loggers on six welding sets and four compressors, one gateway per shed in the two largest sheds, dashboard with the plant head and maintenance.
What happened. Three welding sets ran under 10% of shift hours while a fourth shed was renting two. The rentals were cancelled and the idle sets moved; compressor servicing switched from quarterly to every 500 run-hours, halving service calls on the lightly used units.
- Pilot budget: ₹72,000 hardware
- Rentals cancelled: 2
- Service calls (light units): halved
FAQ
Does the logger need to be wired to the asset?
No — it detects vibration or, with a clip-on CT, current, and mounts magnetically.
What counts as 'running'?
A vibration or current threshold set per asset type in the pilot; the dashboard shows run, idle and off hours separately.
Can it trigger maintenance work orders?
Run-hour thresholds can raise alerts, and in a scale-up phase create work orders in a CMMS.
What does the ₹72,000 cover?
Ten loggers and two gateways on a free-tier utilisation dashboard. Installation, CMMS integration and provider services are quoted after a Request for Quote.
