Product Description

The VVM204 is a digital DC voltage, current, power and energy meter for industrial and commercial monitoring. It measures DC voltage up to 100 V and bidirectional DC current up to ±25 A using a WCS1800 Hall effect sensor with a 9.0 mm conductor aperture. Current measurement does not require a shunt resistor or breaking the measured conductor.

A 16 × 2 LCD displays readings, with watt-hour and ampere-hour measurement for energy and battery-capacity monitoring. Analog voltage outputs and serial UART communication support integration with microcontrollers and data acquisition systems. Modbus RTU slave operation requires an external TTL-to-RS485 converter. The meter includes an adjustable over-current threshold, active-low alarm output, calibration modes and a 48 × 96 mm DIN panel enclosure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What voltage and current can the VVM204 measure?
It measures DC voltage up to 100 V and bidirectional DC current up to ±25 A. The WCS1800 Hall effect sensor measures current through a 9.0 mm aperture without a shunt resistor. Current sensing is less accurate at very low currents.
What power supply does the VVM204 require?
Use a stable 7–12 V DC auxiliary supply connected to +12v and GND. The 100 V measurement rating applies to VIN, not the auxiliary power input. Observe VIN polarity. The datasheet specifies 4000 V isolation for current measurement; it does not specify voltage-input isolation.
Does it support UART and Modbus RTU?
Yes. UART is available on Tx/Rx, with 9600 baud by default and selectable rates up to 115200. Modbus RTU slave operation requires an external TTL-to-RS485 converter, with EN connected to the converter's DE and RE pins. Slave IDs 1–247 are supported; the default is 1. Regular UART data output is unavailable while in Modbus mode.
Are watt-hour and ampere-hour readings retained after power-off?
Send S followed by Enter through the serial port to save Wh and Ah values in device memory before power-off. Send R followed by Enter to reset the stored readings to zero.
How is the over-current alarm adjusted?
Select the over-current setting mode using the push button and adjust RV1. Turning it clockwise increases the threshold; anticlockwise decreases it. On over-current, the O/C digital output goes LOW and LED L2 illuminates. Zero-current calibration is available in Mode 4 with no current flowing through the sensor.

Other Information

Applications: test and measurement, instrumentation and control, motor control, power and solar systems, battery chargers, state-of-charge estimation, electric vehicles, load detection and over-current fault detection.

Connect the auxiliary supply to +12v and GND. Observe correct VIN polarity and conductor direction. Analog Vout and Iout signals are outputs. Current measurement is electrically isolated; the datasheet does not specify isolated voltage measurement.

Baud rate and slave ID are configured over the serial port. Modbus mode requires a local button operation and an external TTL-to-RS485 converter; regular UART data output is unavailable while operating in Modbus mode. Remote Configuration Support means seller support availability.

Wh and Ah are retained after power-off when saved with S + Enter. Use R + Enter to reset stored readings. Hall effect sensing is less accurate at very low currents. If the serial port is unused, connect Rx and NC as instructed by the manufacturer. Use a stable, good-quality auxiliary supply.
